Nisei Video Contest

In the winter of 2019, the NVN launched a contest for high school students challenging them to create a personal video describing how the Japanese American Nisei Soldier history influenced them.

Students were asked to utilize the NVN resources to learn more about an individual soldier’s background of service and sacrifice and use their video creation to express how the story is relatable to their life today.

A committee of judges reviewed the videos based on the following criteria:

  • Reflection on the Nisei soldiers’ values of Patriotism, Citizenship, Courage, Compassion, Perseverance, and Humility
  • Relevancy to today
  • Historical accuracy

The NVN will be announcing the winner of this contest later this year who will receive a monetary price, roundtrip travel and accommodations for a special visit and private tour of the National Museum of the United States Army – home of the new temporary exhibition on the Nisei soldiers.
