The Livingston-Merced Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens
League (JACL) is one of 113 Chapters located in 7 Districts across
the United States. JACL was founded in 1929, and is the oldest and
largest Asian American civil rights organization in the United States.
The JACL monitors and responds to issues that threaten the civil and
human rights of all Americans, particularly to the Asian Pacific American

Our Chapter is part of the Central California District. Locally, we do not
have many civil rights issues so we work on cultural preservation and
education. We annually hold our Day Of Remembrance Banquet in
February, We are part of the Merced Cultural Arts Day in October and
the Cherry Blossom Festival at UC Merced in March.

We award scholarships and our big fund-raiser is our annual Charity
Golf Tournament in May. Our Merced Assembly Center Memorial will
be the catalyst for educating the greater Merced Community about the
unjust incarceration of 1942.
