The Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) Houston Chapter
was established in 1975 as the Texas affiliate of the National Japanese
American Citizens League. JACL-Houston’s mission is to protect the
civil rights of Japanese-Americans and all others who are victimized
by injustice and bigotry, and to preserve the history and culture of
Japanese-Americans through education.

JACL-Houston actively supports a variety of annual events in Houston,
including Rice University’s Asian Film Festival and the Houston Japan
Festival, which is one of the largest Japanese cultural festivals in the
U.S. with more than 25,000 visitors each year. JACL-Houston holds
its general membership meetings every other month, and maintains
a lending library of books and videos about the Japanese-American

JACL-Houston’s website features an archive of very interesting stories
about Nisei veterans, interviews of Japanese-Texans about their
families, and much other pertinent information about the history of
Japanese-Americans in Texas.
